Reading Pays Off
“I am Francis Otieno, a teacher and librarian at Royal Kids School in Mombasa, Kenya. When I was in primary school, I loved to read storybooks and visited the library constantly. One day, the librarian got tired of me pestering her, and she sent me away empty-handed. I waited for a little while, and then I went back to try again. This time the librarian relented and gave me a book with a big smile on her face.
Books helped me a lot, especially in reading and understanding English. I was among the few pupils who could read and write English in my class, so I'm grateful that my school had a library. My profession is a perfect fit for me. I am able to mentor students and encourage them to use reading as a method to strive toward excellence in their education. I can show them by example how reading transforms lives.
Asante sana! Thanks to everyone who has been working to ensure that the e3kids international Library Project at Royal Kids School is a success. Together, we are making a big impact on the lives of children in Kenya.”
